Number of NCLEX Takers Plummet in 2011 and 2012

The number of nurses worldwide taking the NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) has gone down considerably, registering only 9,719 takers in the entire year of 2011, and 3,892 takers in the first 6 months of 2012.

In the heyday of the NCLEX, there were 38,768 takers in 2007 and 30,007 in 2008. The number of takers are detailed HERE.

NCLEX is the licensure exams of the U.S for foreign-educated nurses. For a foreign nurse to be employed in the U.S., she has to pass this exam. NCLEX is given in many countries of the world, including Manila and Cebu.

The decrease in the number of takers is apparently due to the slowdown in the approval of visas for the U.S. since the year 2008.
