NCLEX: From 25,908 Takers to 3,673

The number of nurses taking the NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) all over the world continues to plummet, registering a total of 13,673 takers for the entire year of 2012, versus 25,908 takers in the 2006.

The most number of takers was in 2007, when there were 38,768 takers. The number of takers are detailed HERE.

The NCLEX is a licensure examination of the U.S. for foreign educated nurses. For a foreign nurse to become a registered nurse in the U.S. she has to pass the NCLEX, which is administered in many cities in the world, including Manila and Cebu.

The number of takers continue to be low, with only 1,930 takers for the first quarter of 2013. Of this number, 806 were Filipinos. Since 2006, about half of NCLEX takers have been Filipinos.

The downtrend in the number of takers is due to the slowdown in the U.S. approval of visas for foreign nurses, starting in 2008.
