Last week, the House Committee on Higher and Technical Education confirmed that there was a tremendous increase—147% to be exact—in the number of Philippine nursing graduates who are seeking to practice their profession in the United States of America from January to March 2022. This is equivalent to 3,714 NCLEX takers, a huge jump from last year’s Q1 statistics where only 1,501 Philippine nursing graduates took it. As the NCLEX is considered the primary requirement to get licensed in the United States, this increase translates to Filipino nurses’ renewed desire to work and permanently migrate to the U.S. So even if Western countries like the United Kingdom or Germany have started gaining traction as popular work destinations among Filipino nurses, this attests that America remains to be many Filipino nurses’ top of mind.
